Interview with Dr. Loïc Lannelongue, 2025 Winner of the OHBM Sustainability Award

Dr Loïc Lannelongue is the 2025 recipient of the Sustainability Award, recognized for his advocacy of sustainable research computing and his impactful efforts in promoting environmentally friendly practices across research activities, as well as raising environmental awareness within the OHBM community. As an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Cambridge, he leads the Cambridge Sustainable Computing Lab. 

Before establishing his own research group in 2025, he served as a Research Associate in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care from 2022 to December 2024, pursuing his work on Environmentally Sustainable Computational Science. He is also the Director of Studies in Computer Science, and a Bye Fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge.

The Sustainability Award recognises Dr Lannelongue's commitment to responsible science and his role in shaping research and policy on environmentally sustainable computational science internationally. In this interview, he reflects on the intersection of computing and environmental responsibility, and discusses how the research community can reduce its ecological footprint without compromising scientific progress.
